Chandigarh, December 4

Medical Education and Research Minister Anil Joshi has taken strong note of nursing and dental colleges indulging in irregularities. He has directed the department officers to form teams and conduct checks on all colleges.

The minister has also issued instructions to the teams to prepare a list of colleges indulging in irregularities and falling deficient on the prescribed standards. This would ensure strict action against erring colleges.

Disclosing this here today, Joshi said parents of some students brought to his notice that many dental and nursing colleges were lacking in infrastructure facilities such as laboratories, practical training and teaching staff.

Some colleges had even defaulted on fees to be deposited with the university concerned for affiliation. The minister said such colleges would be strictly dealt with.

He said it had come to his notice that the inspecting teams of Accountant General (AG) were not allowed to enter the colleges.

The Minister said he received a complaint from some parents against a few nursing colleges who failed to provide practical training to students. Acting upon it, he constituted a team comprising professors of Government Medical College, Patiala, to probe the matter. He has asked the team submit report in a week.

Warning the colleges not to violate the norms, Joshi ordered them to provide practical training to the students in an appropriate manner.
