Muktsar, September 17
The residents of Khudia Maha Singh village in Lambi today locked the entrance of the village’s government primary school demanding the transfer of a teacher who, they alleged, passed casteist remarks against their children.
The situation turned tense when another group of villagers turned up in support of the teacher. It was only after the police intervened that the situation was brought under control.
District Education Officer Devinder Kumar Rajoria has marked an inquiry to Block Primary Education Officer Krishna Rani to look into the incident.
In another incident, 19 students of Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya at Warringkhera village yesterday fled from the school alleging their principal had assaulted them the previous day. The principal has dubbed the charges as “baseless”.
Though the students or their parents have not filed any complaint, the Deputy Commissioner has directed the Malout Sub-Divisional Magistrate to investigate the matter.
A team of Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya officials from Chandigarh also reached the school today.
