State Congress leaders are questioning the suspension of Maheshinder Singh, who organised a rally in Moga on January 21, which was addressed by former PCC chief Navjot Singh Sidhu. Maheshinder was suspended on a complaint of party leaders from Moga.

Speaking on condition of anonymity, several leaders said as no action had been initiated against Sidhu by the top brass, there was confusion among the party’s rank and file.

Punjab affairs in-charge Devendra Yadav said action against Maheshinder had been taken on a complaint of Moga-based Congress leaders. Pertaining to Sidhu, he said he was intimated by the former PPC chief that the Bathinda and Hoshairpur rallies were pre-planned. However, regarding the January 21 rally in Moga, Yadav had no intimation.

Earlier, a war of words had erupted between Sidhu and PCC chief Amrinder Singh Raja Warring when Yadav was in the state to hold meetings with the party workers.

Warring had stated that the party’s programmes should be held in consultation with the state unit. Without naming anyone, Warring said those who became a “spoilsport” would have to face the consequences. “The party’s programme should be held according to the state unit’s head. Warring has a big heart and has no insecurity from anyone. Some people have a good height but a small heart and they feel threatened,” Warring had stated.
