Faridkot, February 13
District and Sessions Judge Satvinder Singh today asked the Faridkot SSP to take necessary action as per law on a man’s complaint that he is getting threats from Deputy CM Sukhbir Singh Badal.
Naresh Kumar Sehgal, the complainant, today appeared in the court of the sessions judge and demanded security for himself and his family.
Sehgal has filed an appeal in the district and sessions court, challenging Sukhbir’s acquittal in an attempt to murder case.
Earlier, demanding the cancellation of Sukhbir’s bail in the case, he had alleged that he and his family were facing a threat to their life for challenging the acquittal.
The case had been registered at Kotkapura police station, Faridkot, on June 30, 2006, on the directions of the Punjab and Haryana High Court after Sehgal had approached the court.
Sehgal told the court today that he was getting threats on the phone and was waylaid by goons, who told him to withdraw his complaints against Sukhbir.
He accused the Deputy Commissioner and the SSP of not providing security to him and his kin despite these threats.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Nanak Singh said the police were taking the help of intelligence agencies to assess Sehgal’s threat perception. “We will take action as per law,” he said.
