CHANDIGARH/HOSHIARPUR: Four persons were caught on camera throwing two packets containing a mobile phone and cigarettes over the 20-ft wall of Hoshiarpur Central Jail on February 17.

Chandigarh/Hoshiarpur, February 21

Four persons were caught on camera throwing two packets containing a mobile phone and cigarettes over the 20-ft wall of Hoshiarpur Central Jail on February 17.

On the basis of the CCTV footage, the police have booked four persons. The accused came on two scooters and flung the packets after making several rounds of the area. A colony is adjacent to the jail’s wall.

In a press release, jail Superintendent Vikramjeet Panthey said Home Guard constable Ranjit Singh and Head Warder Amarjit Singh spotted four persons throwing packets over the wall. It was later confirmed from the CCTV footage.

He added that five bundles of “bidi”, a pouch of tobacco and a stone were found in one of the packets. The other packet had bundles of “bidi”, a pouch of tobacco, a mobile phone, a charger, a head phone, a battery and a stone.

Additional Director General of Police (Prisons) Rohit Chaudhary awarded commendation letters to Ranjit Singh and Amarjit Singh.

Later, inmates were searched and two mobile phones and a charger were seized. The police booked Hardyal Singh and Rajinder Pal Singh for having mobile phones, and Ajay Kumar for possessing the charger.
