CHANDIGARH: The Punjab Government today announced the release of arrears of Dearness Allowance (DA)/dearness relief to its 3.5 lakh employees and pensioners. The payments will cost the exchequer Rs 1,300 crore.

The Punjab Government today announced the release of arrears of Dearness Allowance (DA)/dearness relief to its 3.5 lakh employees and pensioners. The payments will cost the exchequer Rs 1,300 crore.

Finance Minister Parminder Singh Dhindsa said the arrears would be paid for the period from July 1, 2014, to February 28, 2015 (7 per cent of DA) and from January 1, 2014, to September 30, 2015 (10 per cent).

Dhindsa said 50 per cent of the arrears from July 1, 2014, to February 28, 2015, would be paid during the second quarter of 2016-17 (July 1 to September 30) and the pending amount would be given during the third quarter (October 1 to December 31).

Half of the arrears from January 1, 2014, to September 30, 2015, would be paid during the fourth quarter of this fiscal (January 1 to March 31, 2017) and the rest during the first quarter of the 2017-18 financial year (April 1 to June 30, 2017).
