The Rural Development and Panchayat Department has announced to go in for all-round development of villages on the pattern of Haripur and Seechewal (Jalandhar) villages. Rural Development and Panchayat Minister Tript Rajinder Singh Bajwa has directed senior officers of the department to tour both villages and observe their development model so as to replicate it in other villages.
Financial Commissioner, Rural Development and Panchayats, Anurag Verma said the department had prepared a proposal based on this model.
He said all Additional Deputy Commissioners (Development), Deputy Directors, District Development and Panchayat Officers (DDPOs) and Executive Engineers of the department had been instructed to visit both villages.
Verma stated that in the sewage treatment plant based on the Seechewal model, one well separated silt from the polluted water, while another segregated the oil content and floating garbage.
Regular water testing
The Water Supply and Sanitation Department has said that regular testing of water for quality would be ensured. With Rs 2,200-crore assistance from the World Bank, the department aims to provide uninterrupted 10-hour water supply in each household of Punjab via free connections. Till now, 126 villages have seen 24x7 supply. The number of villages receiving 10-hour supply stands at 2,255. Till date, 1.13 lakh drinking water connections have been installed.
