Drugs: Will go after big fish, says CM

Chandigarh: Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh on Wednesday said his government would go after the bigwigs in the drug trade, irrespective of their political affiliations, and not small users.

Chandigarh: Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh on Wednesday said his government would go after the bigwigs in the drug trade, irrespective of their political affiliations, and not  small users. “Children will not be picked up by the Special Task Force (STF).” He denied reports that he was posting officials in the STF headed by ADGP Harpreet Singh Sidhu. “I have given him (Sidhu) the freedom to constitute his team. I only want results. The STF has the mandate to question pharmacies and those named in earlier cases.”  The CM has sought a report on the Maur blasts. He has already ordered a probe into the incidents of sacrilege at Bargadi and Behbal Kalan. “There has been no shift in stand since my meeting with the DGP on March 24. The effort is to spare the force for good policing, doing away with the system of deploying personnel on VVIP routes. Eight hours of duty and a weekly off for policemen is on the cards,” he said.
