Bathinda, May 28

EcoSikh, a US-based environmental organisation, is planning to engage the Sikh community to plant 1 million trees across the world to mark the 550th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev, the founder of Sikhism. The organisation’s goal is to reach out to Sikhs all across the globe to plant 550 trees at 1,820 locations, including one related to Guru Nanak in Punjab.

EcoSikh president Dr Rajwant Singh said, “Guru Nanak was a nature lover and planting trees will be the best way to celebrate his birth anniversary. We appeal to all Sikh institutions, gurdwaras and Punjabi organisations to participate in the initiative.” EcoSikh India president Supreet Kaur said the 550th anniversary was an occasion that would excite the youth to take meaningful action like planting trees in celebration. — TNS
