Eight killed in road mishap in Punjab

LUDHIANA: Eight persons, including two women, were today killed when the car they were travelling in collided with a truck near Machiwara, about 50 kms from here, police said.

Ludhiana, March 26

Eight persons, including two women, were today killed when the car they were travelling in collided with a truck near Machiwara, about 50 kms from here, police said.

Six of a family, including a minor boy, their maid and driver of the SUV were killed in the mishap, Deputy Inspector General Ludhiana police range Gurinder Singh said.

The deceased identified as Mehak Singh, Ranjit Kaur, Joginder Singh, Tanveer Singh, Mittu, Beero and driver Surendra, who belonged to Mehana town in Moga district, were on their way to Anandpur Sahib on a pilgrimage, he said.

It was a head-on collision in which car was badly smashed, the DIG added.

In another incident, an unidentified motorcyclist was crushed by a private bus on Ludhiana-Chandigarh road at Vardhman Chowk here today, police said.

The victim was yet to be identified, police said. PTI
