Factory making spurious milk unearthed; four held

SANGRUR: The district police today claimed to have unearthed a “spurious milk” manufacturing factory in a residential area at Balad Khurd village near Bhawanigarh.

The district police today claimed to have unearthed a “spurious milk” manufacturing factory in a residential area at Balad Khurd village near Bhawanigarh.

The police also arrested four persons, including two women, from the spot. They seized 2,200 litres of “spurious milk” along with huge quantity of other material, including nine bags of glucose powder, six bags of dry powder, liquid chemical, 10 tins of ghee, six containers of acid, two gas cylinders, a gas stove, an electronic weighing scale, detergent, two mixers and empty tins of ghee and drums.

Sangrur SSP Pritpal Singh Thind said some persons had been manufacturing spurious milk at a milk dairy in their residential complex in Balad Khurd village and supplying the same to people by terming it as genuine milk.

The police arrested four persons - Makhan Singh, Lakhwinder Singh, Gurpreet Kaur and Gurmeet Kaur. The SSP further said the police also seized two Mahindra Pick-Up and a TATA 407 (all fitted with tanks), a Mahindra Jeep and 2,200 litres of spurious milk.

Inspector Mohinder Singh, in charge, CIA, Bahadur Singh Wala, said a case had been registered against the four accused under Sections 272, 273, 420 and 120-B of the IPC and provisions of the Food Safety and Standards Act-2006.

He said the accused would be produced in a court at Sangrur tomorrow.
