MUKTSAR: The police today resorted to lathicharge against farm labourers at Singhewala village in the Lambi Assembly segment as the latter resisted the move to shift their electricity meters out of their residences.

Muktsar, April 17

The police today resorted to lathicharge against farm labourers at Singhewala village in the Lambi Assembly segment as the latter resisted the move to shift their electricity meters out of their residences.

At least eight farm labourers sustained minor injuries.

The incident took place when the officials of a private company started uninstalling electricity meters from their houses. The labourers objected to it and started protesting. When they refused to relent, the police canecharged them.

Some villagers then attacked the police team with stones, injuring five poliecmen. A case would be registered against the protesters who attacked the policemen, an officer said.
