Santa Singh, a 40-year-old farmer who set himself ablaze in front of the shop of a commission agent in Bhagta Bhai Ka town yesterday, was today rushed to Guru Gobind Singh Medical College and Hospital, Faridkot, for treatment.

Santa Singh had been reportedly asking the commission agent to pay the money in respect of the agricultural land that he sold to him in 2013. Doctors attending on Santa Singh said his condition was critical. He had severe burns on the head and neck, they added.

Officiating station house officer Gurjant Singh said the police were yet to record the statement of the injured farmer. Rajwinder Kaur, 17-year-old daughter of the farmer, said her father had sold three acres to a commission agent two year ago for Rs 1.25 crore, but the agent had not made full payment under the deal so far.
