Muktsar, July 27
The grandson of freedom fighter Giani Labh Singh from Madhir village in Gidderbaha has alleged that the Kotbhai police subjected him to third degree torture at the behest of IYC chief-cum-local MLA Amrinder Singh ‘Raja Warring’ and some other Congressmen after registering a case of political vendetta against him.
The victim, Jagrup Singh, claimed that he had given statement against some Congressmen who had allegedly tried to “occupy” the village pond in 2012.
“Some cops came to my residence on July 24, took me to the police station, where SHO Krishan Kumar tortured me. He first stripped me and shot a video in the presence of some Congressmen. He kept me in custody for nearly 32 hours without food. I lodged a complaint with senior officers, but they sent the application to Gidderbaha,” alleged Jagrup.
The victim is at present admitted to the Civil Hospital. He claimed that he had already given an application in the High Court apprehending threat from local Congressmen.
His brother, Ranbir Singh, said, “Earlier our grandfather paid the price of speaking the truth during the British rule and no we are suffering just because of speaking the truth. My brother had given statement against six persons in the court and they were imprisoned for two years. Now, they are taking revenge from us.”
Muktsar SSP Sushil Kumar said, “The SHO had called both parties recently regarding their dispute over disposal of cow. Taking preventive action, a case was registered. Before arresting Jagrup, a medical examination was conducted. Still if the SHO has done anything illegal, action will be taken against him. I have marked a probe to the Gidderbaha DSP.”
Krishan Kumar said, “The man was produced before the SDM and his medical examination too was done, but no injury came in it. He is trying to implicate me in a false story.”
Warring was not available for comment.
