Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh today said his party would win the Gurdaspur byelection with a huge margin as “all Congress leaders are working hard for the victory of party candidate Sunil Jakhar”.

“Our campaigning is going on very well and we will win the election. People know that our party has been working for the welfare of the state since the first day of the formation of our government,” said the CM at Chulad Kalan village of the district. He had gone there to attend the “bhog” of a path organised by his relatives in memory of his mother Rajmata Mohinder Kaur.

About the death of a farmer during the ongoing protest in Patiala yesterday, Amarinder said it was unfortunate that another farmer of the state had lost his life. He claimed that his government had been making the best efforts for the welfare of the farmers.

“We have announced a waiver of Rs 2 lakh for 10.25 lakh farmers of the state. Other states have announced a waiver of just Rs 50,000. Our party understands the problems of farmers and we have started giving them relief immediately. In future also, we will leave no stone unturned to help the farming community. We are, however, not in a position to give more immediate relief,” he said.

About the brutal murders of senior journalist KJ Singh and his mother in Mohali yesterday, the CM said a special investigation team was probing the case. “The accused will be arrested soon,” he added.
