Govt ignored experts’ warning: Capt

CHANDIGARH: Congress Deputy Leader in Lok Sabha Capt Amarinder Singh today sought a probe into the “negligence” by the state government in taking action on the advance warning given by the Central Integrated Pest Management Centre (CIPC), Jalandhar, about the whitefly attack on cotton.

Chandigarh, October 9

Congress Deputy Leader in Lok Sabha Capt Amarinder Singh today sought a probe into the “negligence” by the state government in taking action on the advance warning given by the Central Integrated Pest Management Centre (CIPC), Jalandhar, about the whitefly attack on cotton.

He said, “The CIPC had sent an advance report to the state government way back in July, when the whitefly pest attack was in its formative stage only. The problem could have been tackled completely and effectively, but nobody seemed to have taken note of the warning at that time.” He demanded that responsibility be fixed. He said suspending and imprisoning one odd official would not serve any purpose. — TNS
