The state government today ordered an inquiry on whether rules were followed in filling the defence quota seats in the state universities.

A government spokesperson said taking note of the news published in The Tribune today under heading “Defence quota: Martyr’s son denied admission to varsity”, the Secretary, Defence Services Welfare, Punjab, Gurkirat Kirpal Singh asked the Director, Sainik Welfare, to inquire whether the reservation pertaining to ex-servicemen for admission in GADVASU and other universities in the state was being given as per the reservation policy or not.

He further directed the Director to submit a comprehensive report in this regard within three days.

A martyr’s son, Karnavir Singh, had alleged that he was denied admission even though he featured first in the defence quota category.

Karnavir’s father Naik Satnam Singh of the Corps 2 Sikh Grenadier Regiment had died in action in Kashmir in 2005.
