A Punjab Police commando posted at the residence of the AAP candidate for the Gurdaspur Lok Sabha by-poll allegedly opened indiscriminate fire on Thursday, damaging several vehicles and causing panic here.

Nobody was hurt in the incident.

Constable Lakhwinder Singh was deputed with Maj Gen Suresh Khajuria (retd).

SSP Vivek Sheel Soni said Lakhwinder had been arrested and booked under Section 336 (endangering life and personal security of others) of the IPC and the Arms Act.

He was placed under arrest after the cops got his medical examination done.

At 4.45 am, Lakhwinder ran out of Khajuria’s house towards the main road and started firing indiscriminately. He took aim at some passing vehicles breaking their glasses.

His colleagues ran after him and managed to overpower him. Lakhwinder had emptied a full magazine before he was overpowered.

The SSP said the constable was in depression following a dispute in his family.
