Hospital job racket busted, 3 booked

The police have booked three members of a gang, identified as Sat Pal Singh Bhangu, Beant Singh and Roopinder Singh, who duped unemployed youth on the pretext of providing them jobs at the local Civil Hospital.

The accused even used the hospital premises for over four months to lend “credibility” to their plot. They had charged Rs 60,000 per candidate to get them a helper’s job. After taking the money, the candidates were asked to report to a person at the hospital where a member of the gang would mark the “attendance” of the victim to convince him/her of getting a job.

However, the youths were told that they were to report only for attendance for four months, after which their services would be regularised and they would be assigned duty and given salary as well.

Gurvir Singh, a resident of Dhilwan Khurd village, said he along with three others were promised the helper’s job at the Civil Hospital. They were called at the office of a doctor in Faridkot in September last year where they paid Rs 60,000 each, he said.

“We were asked to report at the hospital for attendance. For four months, we reported daily to a person, who identified himself as Baljinder Singh Chandbaja,” said Gurpreet Singh, another youth.

The members of this gang disappeared after the youths started demanding salary after four months.

Preliminary probe by the police revealed that the gang was using the premises of the Civil Hospital and Guru Gobind Singh Medical College and Hospital to dupe youth. So far, the police have not established the role of any employee of the hospitals. They are investigating how the accused managed to use the premises of the hospitals.
