The SAD on Saturday condemned the Congress government for its failure in preventing illegal mining and maintaining law and order in the state. It warned that if the state government failed to implement the mining policy in letter and spirit in the next few days, the party would ask the Central government to intervene and save the environment of Punjab.
Speaking at a press conference held at the party headquarters, SAD MP Prem Singh Chandumajra said the environment and people of Punjab were under a big threat as the menace of illegal mining and lawlessness were prevailing in the state. “All norms and rules for sand mining are being thrown out of the window.”
Questions clean chit to Congress MLA
Chandigarh: The SAD on Saturday alleged that the state government had misused the state police to procure the clean chit for Congress MLA Hardev Singh Laddi Sherowalia in an illegal mining case. SAD MP Balwinder Singh Bhunder said the Jalandhar rural police had recommended cancellation of the FIR against Laddi despite videographic evidence incriminating the Congress leader. “It seems that the sand mafia is in league with Congress leaders. That’s why no action is being taken against the former,” he said. TNS
