Investigation, law and order duties to be separate in Punjab

CHANDIGARH: In order to separate investigative functions of the Punjab Police and help them focus on maintaining law and order in the state, the state government on Wednesday constituted the Bureau of Investigation (BoI), with headquarters in Chandigarh

Chandigarh, March 4

In order to separate investigative functions of the Punjab Police and help them focus on maintaining law and order in the state, the state government on Wednesday constituted the Bureau of Investigation (BoI), with headquarters in Chandigarh

“The BoI will investigate into cases, civil and criminal, registered at various police stations,” police’s official spokesperson said.

With 7,772 personnel on its rolls initially, BoI will also have a director, a post created by the government.

“BoI will have all investigating staff in different units in the field under a unified command,” the spokesman said.

"The new wing will be responsible for (all) investigations, from police station, the district and even headquarter level. It would ensure professionalism and conduct time-bound investigation," he said. — PTI
