Abohar, June 30

State Congress vice-president and chief spokesman Sunil Jakhar led a protest march to the Sub-Divisional Magistrate’s office here today.

They raised slogans against the state government, blaming it for large-scale “bungling/malpractices” in the issuance of Blue Cards.

They stormed inside the office after none of the state government officials came out to accept their memorandum and hundreds of applications for Blue Cards which entitles people to grains at subsidised prices.

They waited for half an hour in the office but no one turned up. They finally left the memorandum on the table.

Addressing protesters, Jakhar claimed 32,000 persons in Abohar subdivision had last year submitted applications under the Food Security Act but only 18,000 Blue Cards were issued at the behest of SAD and BJP workers. He alleged that the ruling coalition had politicised the process. Some applicants alleged that the ruling political activists had charged Rs 20 to Rs 80 from them as “suvidha fee” to fill the forms. They said Even as th SDM had not “endorsed” the applications, some people with vested interests got these cards issued, he alleged.

Jakhar said the state government had become “deaf and dumb” to the problems of people.
