Jakhar calls on Khanna’s wife

Congress candidate Sunil Jakhar visited the residence of former BJP MP Vinod Khanna here today, taking local leaders of his own party and the BJP by surprise.

The ex-MP’s widow, Kavita Khanna, termed Jakhar’s gesture a tribute to the late actor-politician.

Accompanied by Amit Vij and Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa, legislators from Pathankot and Dera Baba Nanak, respectively, the PPCC chief drove to Khanna’s Salli road house early this morning. Sandeep Sandhu, OSD to the Chief Minister, was also present.

In his speech in Gurdaspur yesterday, Jakhar had said that he was a fan of Vinod Khanna and would like to visit the latter’s house before starting his election campaign. Kavita was a ticket contender, but the saffron party picked Swaran Salaria.

Meets Fateh Jang too

Qadian: Congress candidate and PPCC chief Sunil Jakhar met Qadian MLA Fateh Jang Bajwa at the latter’s residence on Saturday. Party MLA Sukh Sarkaria and Sandeep Sandhu, OSD to the Chief Minister, were also present at the meeting.

Fateh Jang, brother of Rajya Sabha MP Partap Singh Bajwa, had called Jakhar an “outsider” last week, while indicating that he was in favour of a local candidate.

Partap Bajwa and his wife, former Qadian MLA Charanjit Kaur, had met Congress president Sonia Gandhi a day before Jakhar’s candidature was made official.
