Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) scientists have urged farmers not to burn paddy straw. Scientists have advised farmers to use paddy residue to prepare organic fertiliser to save the land and prevent air pollution.

PAU scientists, agriculture experts and farmers from Fazilka, Ferozepur, Muktsar and Faridkot districts participated in a seminar “Don’t burn paddy straw; save land” organised by Sampuran Agri Venture Pvt Ltd (SAVPL) here today.

Senior PAU scientist Dr Jaswinder Singh Brar said there are four major benefits of using bio-fertilisers prepared from paddy straw. These are financial benefits, preservation of the environment, checking of arsenic content in sub-soil water and improvement in the quality of land.
