Malwa Friends Welfare Society, Dhuri, today honoured 21 girls from across the state for their achievements in different fields like sports, education, social work etc.
A function was organised at Sangrur Wali Kothi in Dhuri town of the district.
Mann Kaur, a 102-year-old athlete who has set a world record in athletics, motivated the girls to follow their dreams by putting in hard work.
“Anyone can do wonders with hard work. But without consistent efforts and strong determination, nothing can be achieved in life. Things are changing for the better for girls and they should make efforts to come forward,” she said.
About her fitness, Kaur said that practice was the only way to keep oneself fit for sports.
Sangrur Deputy Commissioner (DC) APS Virk said that parents must consider girls equal to boys as girls are outshining boys in almost all fields of life these days. “NGOs are playing a big role in changing the mindset of society in favour of girls,” said the DC.
Dr Sandip Jot, patron of the society, sought the support of all present to increase their efforts for the welfare of girls.
The society also organised a walk “I love my daughter” and Mann Kaur led the walk in the city.
