Faridkot, December 13

After over a week’s protest by 249 MBBS students of now-defunct Chintpurni Medical College and Hospital, the Oversight Committee (OC) of the Medical Council of India (MCI) and the Union Health Ministry today gave their nod to the shifting of these students to other medical colleges in the state.

The Baba Farid University of Health Sciences (BFUHS) invited all 249 students of 2014 and 2016 batches at Guru Gobind Singh Medical College, Faridkot, on December 18 for counselling.

“The counselling process has been started as per the directions of the Department of Medical Education and Research (DMER),” said Dr SP Singh, Registrar, BFUHS.

Dr Sushil Garg, president of the Chintpurni Medical College Parents’ Association, said after approval by the OC, the Union Health Ministry also gave its nod to the shifting as per the orders of the Punjab and Haryana High Court.

Demanding expeditious approval of their shifting, after it was ordered by the High Court on September 8 and approved by the executive committee of the MCI on November 22, 249 students decided to camp in New Delhi last week till the OC and the Union Health Ministry gave their approval to shifting.

While 101 students of the 2014 batch will be shifted only to three government colleges in the state, 148 students of the 2016 batch will be shifted to government and private colleges as per their allotment on quota seats in Chintpurni college.
