Abohar, February 1

The city police have registered a case against Lakhi alias Gaggu Sandhu of Faridkot under Sections 366A (Procuration of minor girl), 376 and 116 of the IPC and Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act.

The action has been taken on the basis of a statement of a 15-year-old girl of Sharnarthi Basti here who reportedly regained consciousness yesterday after a week-long treatment at a hospital. The victim said she came in contact with Lakhi two months ago. On January 23, he took her away on a motorcycle on a promise to marry her. She was allegedly raped and then forced to consume insecticide. Then, Lakhi dropped her at her colony. She was shifted to the civil hospital, but doctors referred her to Bathinda. — OC
