Minor’s torture: ASI booked, SHO shifted

BATHINDA: The police today booked Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Kulwinder Singh of the Kotwali police station for assaulting a 12-year-old boy, who was caught on the suspicion of theft.

The police today booked Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Kulwinder Singh of the Kotwali police station for assaulting a 12-year-old boy, who was caught on the suspicion of theft. The ASI has also been booked under the Prevention of Corruption Act.

Davinder Kumar, a local resident, and 20 unidentified persons were also booked for assaulting the boy. The role of Kotwali SHO Devinder Singh and ASI Rajveer Singh is also the under scanner. Both have been sent to the Police Lines till the completion of investigation.

Bathinda SSP Naveen Singla said a case was registered at Kotwali police station following preliminary investigation conducted by SP (Investigation) Swaran Singh Khanna. He said they were examining the role of the other two cops, adding that anyone found guilty would not be spared. The case was registered on the statement of Amandeep Kaur, victim’s mother. She had yesterday accused the police of pressuring her to reach a compromise with them over the issue.

Meanwhile, support is pouring for the family from different quarters. Some NRIs have approached the family with the offer of financial and legal help. New York-based NRI Avtar Singh Padda has sent some money to Amandeep Kaur. AAP MLA Rupinder Kaur Ruby also visited the victim at the Civil Hospital along with party leaders today and sought justice for the family.
