Three women were murdered in a house in the upscale Lajpat Nagar here today. The deceased were identified as Daljit Kaur, her daughter-in-law Paramjit Kaur and Khushwinder Kaur. The latter had come to Daljit’s house to meet Paramjit.
The women were attacked with sharp-edged weapons and later shot from point-blank range. The jewellery worn by the victims was found intact. A search operation carried out by a forensic team revealed that cash and valuables had also not been stolen. Police Commissioner Arpit Shukla said the licensed gun of Daljit’s husband Jagjit Singh – who owns a petrol pump near KMV College — was found missing and it seemed that the murders were committed with it. The assailants apparently fled with the firearm.
He said CCTV cameras were installed in the house, but these had become non-functional the day before. “It seems that the CCTV cameras were tampered with by the culprits,” said Shukla.
According to officials investigating the crime, the assailants fled from the back door after opening its lock.
