A day after former sarpanch of the Congress Jaswinder Singh Chhinda of Kothe Bholewale in the Gidderbaha Assembly segment was killed by some unidentified persons near Kauni village here, the police are still groping in the dark. Neither the police have got any clue about the number of assailants nor the motive behind the incident.

Six bullets were shot at the victim and three of them hit Chhinda in his chest and head, which claimed his life.

Even the family of the deceased has not raised any doubt on anyone as yet.

However, the police probing the matter suspect that the professional killers may have been hired for the crime.

Gidderbaha DSP Rajpal Singh said, “We are probing it from all angles, but have not got any clue. No one has come forward to give statement, nor have we seen anyone in the CCTV footage.”

Asked whether it could be a dispute over property or illicit relations, the DSP said, “Primarily, it does not appear to be a case of loot. As of now, we have not got any clue. We are trying by constituting various teams.”
