Padho Punjab: Over 70% primary kids improve basics

There has been a marked improvement in the performance of primary school students under the “Padho Punjab, Padhao Punjab” project in the state, as revealed by a comparative analysis report of the baseline tests conducted in August 2017 and the post-tests which were held two months ago.

According to reports, at the beginning of the project, around 29.5 per cent students understood the basics and after the test, more than 70 per cent of the students were able to do so.

As per the results of the post-test figures, a tremendous growth in the results of all subjects has been observed. The overall percentage of targets achieved for students from Classes I to V was just 29.85 during the baseline test which now stands at 71.51.

According to subject-wise analysis, the percentage for Punjabi subject during the baseline test was 35.58, which has climbed to 72.95. Similarly, in mathematics and English, the result was just 32.40 per cent and 21.57 per cent, respectively, during the baseline test and now the figures stand at 79.43 and 62.48 per cent, respectively.

The class-wise report states that for Class II, the percentage of students reading a paragraph in Punjabi was merely 2.19 per cent during the baseline test, but the figure reached up to 63.39 per cent during the post-test.

Similarly, the result for students of Class III reading a story in Punjabi was 3.4 per cent which now stood at 71.9 per cent.
