Muktsar, February 20

The district administration today issued an alert after anonymous pamphlets claiming that poison has been mixed in the reservoir of the local waterworks were recovered.

The reservoir is located in the complex, which has been already declared restricted. Besides, the residences of District and Sessions Judge and Deputy Commissioner are also located in the complex.

The Water Supply and Sanitation authorities lifted water samples from the reservoir and the potable water supply has been stopped till further orders.

The pamphlet, written in Punjabi, said poison had been mixed in the water tank and it would be done every week. It further stated, “We, low-caste people, were not allowed to enter the park in the waterworks complex, thus water has been poisoned. We had even warned former XEN Amrik Singh not to divide people on caste basis.”

RK Gupta, Executive Engineer, Water Supply and Sanitation Department, Muktsar, said, “A shopkeeper came to my office yesterday and handed over this pamphlet saying he received it. We have stopped the water supply to the town and sent samples for laboratory test. The Deputy Commissioner has been informed. We are making arrangements so that nobody could enter the waterworks complex without permission.”

Muktsar DC Sumeet Jarangal said, “I have discussed the issue with the SSP. We will stop the public from coming close to the reservoir. Identification cards were issued after the request of some locals. However, it was not limited to any particular group of people. Anyone can apply for it.”
