It has been more than two months since the term of former Vice-Chancellor of Punjab Technical University Dr Rajneesh Arora expired, but the process for making fresh appointment to the post is yet to begin.
A notification for the re-constitution of a board of governors for the varsity was issued more than three weeks ago, but no meeting has been held so far for forming a search committee for the post. Industrialist Sunil Kant Munjal, who headed the earlier board, will continue to head the new one. It is only the nominee from among college principals who have been changed.
Dr Ravi Kumar, Principal of the Beant College of Engineering, Gurdaspur, is learnt to have been appointed as the new member, while Dr AP Singh, Dean, Research and Consultancy, is the new dean nominee instead of Dr Buta Singh, Dean, Academic Affairs.
Rakesh Verma, Secretary, Technical Education and Industrial Training, who has the additional charge as the VC of the varsity, has been visiting the campus only once a week. IAS officer Verma, who is also a member of the board, said, “The search committee will be formed only when the board meets. So far, no such schedule has been finalised.”
