Nangal is set to become the first town in the state having piped supply of cooking gas to all houses.
Punjab Speaker Rana KP Singh laid the foundation stone of Rs 150-crore project in this regard here today.
NFL chief general manager Nirlep Singh Rai, Bharat Petroleum chief general manager Vijay Duggal and general manager Deepak Malik were also present on the occasion.
Addressing the gathering, Rana KP Singh said that the pipe had already reached the town to supply gas to the National Fertiliser Limited plant during the previous tenure of the Congress government.
Now, cooking gas would be supplied through this pipeline to all residential units in the town, he said.
Rana said that in the first phase of the project, gas supply would reach Shivalik Avenue locality. Later, all the localities would be covered under the project. After that, all towns falling on the national highway till Ropar would get piped gas supply, he added.
Bharat Petroleum CGM Duggal said that the piped gas supply would save 10 per cent expenditure on fuel of all consumers.
