PNDT case: Doc’s plea rejected

The Rajasthan HC today turned down the plea of Ferozepur-based Dr Umesh Sharma, challenging the jurisdiction of the Rajasthan PCPNDT (pre-conception, pre-natal diagnostic techniques) team in registering an FIR following a sting operation in Punjab.

Official sources said the petitioner had challenged the PCPNDT authority to register an FIR at Sriganganagar whereas the raid was conducted in Ferozepur on March 19 at his sonography centre. The HC rejected the plea as the state counsel said place of occurrence of crime and preliminary investigation of the complaint was Sriganganagar. The HC held that other issues raised in the petition could be considered during the trial of the case. — OC
