Police kill ''liquor smuggler'' in encounter

BATHINDA: An alleged liquor smuggler was killed in an encounter with the police near Jeeda village on the Bathinda-Kotkapura road on Wednesday night, police sources said.

Bathinda, May 26

An alleged liquor smuggler was killed in an encounter with the police near Jeeda village on the Bathinda-Kotkapura road on Wednesday night, police sources said.

The deceased identified as 26-year-old Ajmer Singh Jimmy, a resident of Thandewala village in Muktsar district, was earlier booked in a robbery case, the police said.

Jimmy was intercepted by a police party near Jeeda village while he was allegedly smuggling liquor. On being challenged,  he opened fire at police personnel, the police claimed. The police personnel, however, returned fire, killing him on the spot.
