On the final day of campaigning for the Khadoor Sahib byelection, SAD president Sukhbir Singh Badal today addressed rallies in favour of party candidate Ravinder Singh Brahmpura at seven places. Independent candidates, too, made last-ditch efforts to woo voters.
Sukhbir, in his second round of rallies, today dared PPCC president Capt Amarinder Singh to highlight “even a single achievement during his tenure as the Chief Minister”.
He alleged Amarinder had pushed the state backwards and discontinued public welfare schemes. He said instead of supporting the state farmers, he burdened them with huge tubewell bills.
Sukhbir said Amarinder had imposed a ban on recruitments denying job opportunities to thousands of youths.
Taking a dig at Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal, Sukhbir said Kejriwal was unaware of the needs and aspirations of the people of Punjab.
Accusing Congress leader Ramanjit Singh Sikki of adopting double standards, he said on one hand Sikki resigned in protest against sacrilege incidents and on the other, he saluted the Gandhi family which was responsible for attacking the Darbar Sahib.
Lok Sabha member Ranjit Singh Brahmpura, his son and SAD candidate Ravinder Singh Brahmpura and minister Sikander Singh Maluka also spoke at the rallies.
Independent candidates, too, organised meetings and small gathering to seek votes. They included Congress rebel Bhupinder Singh Bittu and Punjab Sanjhawal Morcha leader Dr Sumail Singh Sidhu. The latter organised a road show in the area.
Meanwhile, 15 companies of paramilitary forces have been called for a free and fair poll. Manmohan Kumar Sharma, SSP, today said six companies of the PAP, five of the CRPF, one ITBP and three of the IRB had been called to ensure tight security arrangements for polling.
Earlier, 31 of the 132 polling stations were declared hypersensitive. The polling stations of Khadoor Sahib, Mundapind, Manochahal Kalan, Fatehbad and Brahmpura are among the stations declared hypersensitive.
