The Punjab government on Thursday approved a new power tariff order for all categories of consumers. The tariff across all categories has been increased by 2.2 per cent.

A special tariff for low and medium supply industry consumers has also been announced.

If these industrial consumers run their factories at night time, they would have to pay just 50 per cent of fixed charges and a special tariff of Rs 4.28 per unit, the order said.

This new incentive is besides the existing time of day tariff, when users pay much less for using power at night hours.

For domestic consumers, the power tariff has been increased from Rs 0.12- Rs 0.14 per unit.

The hike is minimal-- between Rs 0.02 to Rs 0.05--for non industrial and commercial consumers.
