President’s top police medals for ADGP Bhawra, IG Ishwar Chander

CHANDIGARH: Two senior Punjab Police officers, ADGP (Crime and Investigation) VK Bhawra and IG (Border Range) Ishwar Chander, have been selected for the President’s Police Medal for Distinguished Service.

Two senior Punjab Police officers, ADGP (Crime and Investigation) VK Bhawra and IG (Border Range) Ishwar Chander, have been selected for the President’s Police Medal for Distinguished Service.

Fifteen police officers will get the Police Medal for Meritorious Service. VK Bhawra and Ishwar Chander are 1987 and 1991-batch IPS officers, respectively.

IG Ishwar Chander has a distinction of being among a few Punjab Police officers who have won all three President’s Police Medals—the President’s Police Medal for Distinguished Service, President’s Police Medal for Gallantry and the President’s Police Medal for Meritorious Service. He got President’s Police Medal for Gallantry in 1994 for fighting insurgency in Punjab. He also played a major role in the anti-drug drive in the state.

Bhawra is known for his investigation and crime-busting skills.

The names of these officers were announced by the Ministry of Home Affairs today. They would get these awards on the dates fixed by the ministry as per the availability of President Pranab Mukharjee.

The 15 officials selected for the President’s Medal for Meritorious Service included Rajinder Singh, DIG, Vigilance Bureau, Punjab; Tulsi Ram, Commandant, 80th Battallion, PAP Jalandhar, Punjab; Parampal Singh, SP-cum-ADCP (City), Amritsar; Sharanjit Singh, SP (H), Patiala; Inspector Sukhbir Singh, SHO, Nabha; Inspector Amarjeet Singh, SHO, Haibowal Ludhiana; Charanjit Singh, Sub-Inspector, PRTC, Jahan Khelan; Jaswant Singh, SI, CID Unit, Chandigarh; Jagdish Singh, SI, CRC, Jalandhar; Channa Singh, SI, Commando Training Centre, Patiala; Megh Raj Singh, SI, Police Lines, Ludhiana; Bikramjit Singh, SHO, Kot Bhai; Ramesh Kumar, ASI, Narocotics Cell, Amritsar; Naresh Kumar, ASI, PRTC, Jahan Khelan; and Ravi Dutt, ASI in the office of the Commissioner of Police, Amritsar.

Meanwhile, the Punjab Government has announced Chief Minister’s Rakshak Padak and Chief Minister’s Medal for Outstanding Devotion to Duty for 12 police officials. Those who have been awarded the Rakshak Padaks included Sub-Inspector Jasmine Kaur, ASI Gurjant Singh, Head Constable Sukhwinder Singh, Head Constable Nehru Singh and Constable Darshan Singh.

Seven police officials who have been awarded the Chief Minister’s Medal for Outstanding Devotion to Duty included Rajinder Singh, SP (Investigation), Hoshiarpur; Jaskiranjit Singh Teja, SP (C&R), Investigation, Patiala; Inspector Kikar Singh, in charge, CIA, Ferozepur; Inspector Arwinder Singh, in charge, CIA Staff, Commissionerate Amritsar; SI Manmohan Singh, working in the Jalandhar Commissionerate; SI Sukhwinder Singh, PRTC, Jahan Khelan; and SI Harjinder Singh, CPO, Punjab, Chandigarh.
