Chandigarh, July 24

The Punjab State Scheduled Castes Commission has summoned the state Health Director on August 10 owing to the latter’s alleged apathy to the commission.

Announcing this here on Monday, commission chairman Rajesh Bagha said the commission had received a complaint from Balvir Kaur, resident of Ferozepur district, saying she was denied benefit under the Bhagat Puran Singh Sehat Bima Yojana and was charged Rs 30,000 for treatment and Rs 5,000 for medicines by the Civil Hospital, Jalandhar, where she was treated from September 7 to 20, 2016.

Bagha said the commission had sought a report from the competent officer till July 13 but even after repeated reminders neither any representative of the Health Department appeared before the commission nor was the report received, which showed the non-serious attitude on the part of Health director towards the commission.
