Chandigarh, February 14

The state government has supported a petition filed in public interest for introducing Punjabi as an official language in the district courts. Responding to the PIL filed by advocate HC Arora, the government has stated that the PIL may allowed. It has added that the notification dated November 5, 2008, issued by the Department of Legal and Legislative Affairs should be enforced in the courts within the jurisdiction of the state.

In support of the stand, the government has said the Punjab Vidhan Sabha had unanimously passed an official resolution dated March 2, 2020, for the implementation of Punjabi language in the state. The PIL will now come up for further hearing before the High Court on April 24.
