Roll back power tariff hike: SAD

Chandigarh: The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) on Friday condemned the “unbearable and inhuman burden” put on the common man with repeated hikes in the power tariff and demanded a complete rollback, even as it sought removing all hidden charges to ensure power to the industrial sector at the landing cost of Rs 5 per unit.

In a statement, former minister and senior SAD leader Bikram Singh Majithia said domestic consumers were being levied fixed charges on electricity consumption whether they consumed power or not. “Scheduled Caste consumers are being forced to pay astronomical bills, even as the partial free power facility to the Backward Classes has been withdrawn,” he added.
