Rs 1.65 crore drug haul in Ferozepur

FEROZEPUR: Sleuths of the Counter Intelligence Wing nabbed two drug peddlers with a contraband worth Rs 1.65 crore, besides Rs 3 lakh in cash associated with the business.

Sleuths of the Counter Intelligence Wing nabbed two drug peddlers with a contraband worth Rs 1.65 crore, besides Rs 3 lakh in cash associated with the business.

Narinder Pal Singh Sidhu, AIG (Counter Intelligence) Ferozepur, said on Friday evening, during patrolling along the riverbed near Palla Megha village, sleuths of the CI wing nabbed two suspicious persons -- Gurdip Singh of Kilche Wala village and Ranjit Singh of Pachhadiyan village. During their search, 310 gm of heroin worth Rs 1.65 crore, besides Rs 3 lakh cash was recovered from their possession. Sidhu said their third accomplice, Balwinder Singh, managed to flee from the spot.

The AIG said Balwinder had agricultural land across the fence near the Shameke border outpost, from where he was running a drug smuggling racket. “They were using a special tea kettle in which they smuggled drugs with the help of Pakistan-based drug smugglers. The kettle has also been recovered. We are conducting investigations, said Sidhu.

Meanwhile, the BSF troops also carried out a special search operation near the JN Mohammad border outpost between the border security fence and the international border. During the search, they recovered a plastic bottle filled with 500 gm of heroin from a field near the fence.
