Following a decline in cash donations post-demonetisation, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has urged the people of the poll-bound state to donate money online.

The party has put up a message on Facebook, urging people to donate money in its account for elections. The party has provided various options for donations such as net banking, credit card, debit card and e-wallets. AAP leader Jagroop Jarkhar said each penny going to the party fund was accounted for and the details were available on AAP’s website.

“Ours is the first party which has put the details of political funding online. We challenge the Congress and the BJP to do the same. The nation has the right to know the name of industrialists who are funding the BJP and the Congress and in turn taking favours,” said Jagroop.

He said the people who intended to donate money were told to visit the Facebook page and look for the link to make the payment.

Denies taking cash during roadshow Sources in the party said during the roadshow at Sahnewal and Gill by AAP leaders Harjot Singh Bains and Jeevan Singh Sangowal on Sunday, local residents gave cash donations to the party.

Darhans Singh Shankar, Ludhiana zone observer, refuted the charge. “We only accept funds through cheques and online transactions. The money goes directly in the party’s account. We are also telling people if they make the payment through cheque they could avail tax benefits,” he said.
