Sangrur farmers protest hike in fuel prices

SANGRUR: Farmers, under the banner of BKU Rajewal, protested in Sangrur city on Saturday against the hike in petrol and diesel prices.

Sangrur, May 26

Farmers, under the banner of BKU Rajewal, protested in Sangrur city on Saturday against the hike in petrol and diesel prices. They raised slogans against the Union Government and also submitted a memorandum to Sangrur SDM Avikesh Gupta to be forwarded to the Prime Minister.

“Farmers are committing suicide as their debt is rising but the Union Government is creating more problems for them by increasing diesel and petrol prices. We will launch an indefinite protest if it doesn’t roll back the hike,” said Gurmeet Singh Kapial, district president of BKU Rajewal. BKU Rajewal state secretary Niranjan Singh Dohla alleged that the Centre was favouring only big industrial houses and it had no mercy for poor farmers. — TNS
