The Self-Employed Women’s Association (SEWA) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Punjab Government to empower women in the state.
Renana Jhabvala, president of SEWA Bharat, said in a press note, “Through this MoU, the national federation of SEWA commits to partnering with various departments and organisations of the state government to help towards the success of their existing and future schemes and objectives on women’s welfare.”
She said SEWA Bharat would mobilise women, form women’s groups and organisations, build their capacity, train skills, hold activities to improve their health, further their economic opportunities, work towards their financial and digital inclusion, help them secure assets, improve their habitats, reach out to their children and other such economic and social activities.”
SEWA is a family of organisations founded by noted Gandhian Ela Bhatt, who is famous for providing services to poor women in rural economy. The organisation has been working in 21 towns of Punjab on health issues for the past year.
