Amritsar, March 5

SGPC president Harjinder Singh Dhami on Tuesday welcomed the decision of Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa, president, SAD (Sanyukt), to merge his party with the Akali Dal led by Sukhbir Singh Badal.

Dhami appealed to other Akali-minded leaders that in view of Panthic politics and the current situation, they should also unite under one flag of SAD.

“I appeal to the entire Sikh and Punjabi community to strengthen their regional party, SAD, for the welfare of the state,” he said. He added that the tendency of people running the present government of the state was to “please their Delhi masters”. This, he added, was taking the region into deep crises, and only if Punjab’s own party, SAD, was strong, the interests of Punjab could be secured.
