A special committee of the Association for Democratic Rights (ADR) in its investigation report has indicted Cheema police for delaying action, which led to a clash between Dalits and Nihangs at Shahpur Kalan village on October 15. A Dalit was killed during the clash over the possession of reserved land from the village common land.
“Despite having timely information, the police did not act immediately. Had the police taken prompt action, the clash could have been prevented. We have sent our report today to the senior authorities for action against erring policemen,” said Swarnjit Singh, a member of the committee of the ADR.
When contacted, Sunam DSP William Jeji denied the allegations of delaying action.
