Chandigarh, May 2

The Punjab Government has marked a high-level probe into the use of social media by members of various gangs. Instructions have been issued to the state Jails Department to ascertain whether gangsters lodged in the Nabha and Patiala jails are using the social media to post brazen messages over the recent killing of gangster Jaswinder Singh ‘Rocky’.

Secretary, Jails, Sanjay Kumar, said, “We are trying to find out whether the Facebook updates are being done from within the jail or outside.”

Meanwhile, Punjab DGP Suresh Arora, while holding the Monday crime review meeting, discussed the gang wars in the state, especially in the wake of Rocky’s killing. The DGP is learnt to have directed the police to prepare a detailed report of the gangsters and set up a special team to keep tabs on their activities.
