Special counters for registration of real estate agents

The Punjab Housing and Urban Development Department has decided to set up special counters for registration of promoters and real estate agents under the Real Estate (Regulation & Development) Act, 2016.

The last date for registration is July 31. As the last date is approaching, a sudden rush is being been seen at the PUDA office.

“So far, a total of 80 developers and real estate agents have applied for registration while more applications are pouring in,” said Vini Mahajan, Additional Chief Secretary of the department.

She added that the department would set up special counters at PUDA Bhawan in Sector 62 here to cater to the rush.

“We have also decided to keep these counters open on Saturday (July 29) and Monday (July 31) for the convenience of promoters and real estate agents.

Section 3(1) of the aforesaid Act mandates all promoters in the state to get themselves registered. In failure to comply with the provisions of the Act, promoters cannot advertise, market, book, sell or offer for sale or invite intending buyers to purchase any kind of real estate.

Besides, Section 9 (1) of the Act provides that no real estate agent will facilitate sale/purchase of any plot/apartment/building in any real estate project without obtaining registration from the Real Estate Regulatory Authority (RERA).
